The Jacquard Project: Found Pattern

Collaboration with Hannah Robson

In 2021 I was delighted to be invited to collaborate on Hannah Robson’s ACE funded project ‘The Jacquard Project’.

Hannah was awarded the Developing Your Creative Practice Fund to give a new lease of life to a jacquard loom. After servicing and learning to run the loom, she proceeded to develop new work with a select group artists from varied disciplines; Alice Chandler, Anna Ray, James Thompson and myself. Each collaboration had its own unique personality, resulting in a diverse collection of exciting and intriguing works.

Found Pattern was conceived as a way to celebrate and give life to the moments of studio practice which easily go overlooked: the incidental marks and spills from inks and dyes, the material offcuts and scraps from the cutting table.

Working together on the jacquard software we were able to transform and enrich my repeat designs through use of colour and texture, drawing upon Hannah’s deep understanding of jacquard design and our shared background in woven textiles.
